SCALE – Studio Chandrashekar for Architecture, Landscape and Ecology

Scale is a research-driven architectural practice founded in 2018 and based in Bangalore, India. Anchoring a desire to celebrating ecosystems and drawing profound inspiration from the enduring forests of Mother Earth, our proposals often intersect with the converging memories of the social sciences.Having journeyed through diverse forests across Indian subcontinent and worked closely with communities, forest departments and conservation scientists, Ar. Poornima K P has gained insight into how landscapes shape and are shaped by human behavior, belief systems and cultural evolution.

Gardens are metaphorical echoes of forests - both composed and organic scenes, offering layered and unpredictable connections to human experience. Laced in a complex tapestry of mythical and cultural sources, Studio Scale reflects deeply on the entwined relationships between humanity, nature, and society, sliding landscapes artistically into the architectural realm.Landscapes, like a “ragam”, a melodic framework, unfold in movements—aware of nature’s eternal rhythm of birth, life, decay, and renewal. In the ever-evolving urban context, gardens and open spaces must be perceived not as static installations, but as living, breathing compositions—dynamic settings for reflection, resilience, and regeneration.

Studio believes in inclusive ethos, that a good landscape creates a greater awareness of the importance of salutogenic gardens and surroundings. We Consciously seek clients and projects that echo this sensitivity and question the monotony about the conventional landscapes.

In the heart of untamed forests and along the gentle curves of riverine ecosystems, I dare to embark on a journey that transcends mere exploration. As a landscape architect deeply rooted in a passion for native ecosystems and nature-based solutions, I traverse the verdant valleys across diverse biomes, drawing inspiration from the raw, unfiltered beauty of nature.

Each step into the wild is a step towards simplicity and authenticity in my designs. The diverse flora and fauna I encounter not only fuel my creative spirit but also instill a profound sense of gratitude for the opportunities that have graced my path.

Birdsongs and the rustling of leaves become my muses, reminding me of the joy found in nature's embrace, a joy not diminished by the lack of knowledge but enhanced by pure wonder.

With every journey, I seek to weave the essence of these pristine landscapes into my work, creating spaces that echo the harmony and serenity of the wild. Through these journeys, I see the world not just as it is, but as it could be—resilient, beautiful, and ever-inspiring.

If we design with respect, not just for people but for place, we’ll discover that beauty doesn’t have to come from afar—it’s been growing here all along.
